HOW IT ALL STARTED…
I had always loved going to my local Starbucks to meet people, sip great coffee, and swap ideas. Since every coffee shop was closed during the pandemic, I decided to create my own virtual coffee shop experience and open it up to the world for people to join together and share stories of what we were all going through during COVID-19. From that moment on, “Coffee with Kelly” was open for business and on March 23rd of 2020, I launched my very first Zoom call (i.e. coffee shop) into a virtual world that sparked hope for anyone who was feeling alone and wanted to connect.
I didn’t want it to be your typical networking event where everyone was pitching a product for a sale they needed to make. Instead, I only wanted others to talk about themselves for the hour. My desire for Coffee with Kelly was to serve as a safe space for people from all around the world, any demographic, and any type of background could join together and build a community.
Six people showed up (including me) with their coffee mugs in hand to that first meeting. It was a small intimate group but the dialogue and energy among those attendees was palpable. Over a year later, the coffee shop is brewing more than just coffee and going strong like a double shot of espresso on a Monday morning.
We have been meeting weekly ever since and our mission has become clear as we seek to inspire humanity and connect people while encouraging personal growth. We like to call it “Leadership Caffeine”.
Once again, we aren’t your typical coffee shop. We are all about having a good time while serving others and we serve more than just coffee–we also serve hope!
You know you are at Coffee with Kelly when you hear the music pumping through your speakers as we get set to begin the weekly leadership lesson. Did I mention we have a chair dance off before we get started because…why not? We are living La Vida Mocha!
As the year went on, it became apparent that Coffee with Kelly had developed its own culture. It is an environment where we believe in servant leadership and maintain a set of core values that we lead through (BREW add core values here)
There is something for everyone in the coffee shop from helping support you through your job search, developing your leadership skills, or just having a safe place to connect with like-minded humans who will not judge you.
